At the heart of the Moroccan Football Museum: passion, history, & trophies

Décembre 2025

This December, the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 fever gripped every city in Morocco. But the Kingdom has long been a vibrant land of football. This sport has always been a part of its history and development. The Moroccan Football Museum, a joint creation of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and the National Foundation of Museums, bears witness to this.

Pioneers, legends, & a vision for the future

The epic journey begins with the pioneers of the 1920s, the legendary clubs, and a lineage of talents including Larbi Ben Barek, the “Black Pearl”, a global idol of the 1940s–50s; Ahmed Faras (African Footballer of the Year in 1975), Badou Zaki (African Footballer of the Year in 1986), and many others who shaped a playing identity and a collective imagination. All are brought together in an impressive “Hall of Fame”. The museum’s itinerary also highlights the constant support of the three kings—The Late King Mohammed V, The Late King Hassan II and His Majesty King Mohammed VI—and shows how the Kingdom has fostered the growth of the sport: state-of-the-art stadiums, youth training, the rise of women’s football, professionalization of clubs, among other efforts.

Memorable moments & objects of amazement

The display cases tell the story through an impressive collection of cups, trophies, jerseys, pennants, balls, and front pages of major newspapers. Outfits and boots worn by many Moroccan heroes narrate the fervor of the great match nights. Visitors relive the key moments: the 1976 CAN victory, the 1986 World Cup in Mexico with the historic qualification for the Round of 16, right up to the epic journey of Qatar 2022, when Morocco became the first African and Arab team to reach the World Cup semi-finals. In the stadiums as in the streets, the same rallying cry then carried the team and united the nation: “Dirou Niya”. Walid Regragui, the coach of the “Atlas Lions”, turned it into a simple and powerful mantra, which could be translated as: “Have faith, believe in it, move forward with conviction”.

Living archives, shared passion

Through the images and chants, one understands how, generation after generation, hope has been transformed into shared exploits.

Dynamic scenes—stadium sounds, archive images, friezes and portraits, interactive terminals, and spaces dedicated to all practices (futsal, blind football, e-sport)—illuminate the trajectories and tactics, testifying to how a nation recognized itself in its football. Finally, to beautifully immortalize one’s visit, an instafriendly setting allows everyone to immerse themselves in the locker room atmosphere, as if preparing to step onto the field.

This museum is an essential stop to extend the football fever of the continent’s flagship tournament and feel the soul of a football nation.
