Errachidia, Gateway to Southern Morocco

A traditional village by an oasis.

On the edge of the Sahara, Errachidia is the perfect base for exploring the Tafilalet region, a landscape of lush valleys, endless palm groves, ochre kasbahs and sweeping Saharan dunes. Steeped in history, this remarkable region is the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty and once stood at the crossroads of the great trans-Saharan caravan routes, where spectacular scenery meets the warm hospitality of southern Morocco.

Why Visit the Errachidia Region This Autumn?

With the intense heat of summer giving way to milder days, autumn is undoubtedly the best time to explore the surrounding desert landscapes, scattered with oases. From the Ziz Gorges to the dunes of Merzouga, the scenery is bathed in extraordinary light, while the palm groves come alive with the date harvest. Heavy clusters of dates weigh down the palms as skilled harvesters climb effortlessly to the treetops to gather the precious fruit. The season also coincides with the International Date Fair of Erfoud, taking place this year from 23 October to 25 October. This major celebration of oasis heritage honours local producers, traditional craftsmanship and the region’s rich cultural traditions.
