AgriTech: A Driver of Transformation in Moroccan Agriculture

In Meknes, from April 20th to 28th, 2026, the International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM) confirms its status as a major global event. Beyond its scale, the 2026 edition marks a turning point, reflecting the acceleration of a profound transformation in Moroccan agriculture, driven by technological innovation.

With the “Featured AgriTech Solution” initiative, launched in partnership with the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Agriculture is sending a strong signal: positioning innovation as a strategic lever. The objective is clear: to foster an agricultural model that is more productive, more efficient in its use of water resources, more precise and more connected.

The tablet becomes a true agricultural control hub

A Structural Imperative

In Morocco, agritech is not merely a trend, but a concrete response to structural challenges. Chronic water stress, climate change, soil degradation and rising input costs all require producing more with fewer resources.

In this context, smart sensors, data analytics, artificial intelligence and precision irrigation are transforming practices and enabling more informed decision-making. Farmers no longer simply observe their fields; they manage them in real time.

Across Africa, these innovations open up significant prospects for improved agricultural performance and competitiveness.

An Ecosystem Taking Shape

With the Generation Green 2020–2030 strategy, Morocco has placed digitalisation at the heart of its agricultural transformation. The creation in 2023 in Rabat of the Digital Agriculture, Forestry and Drought Observatory Hub is part of this dynamic, with the aim of eventually connecting nearly two million farmers to digital services.

Around this public momentum, an ecosystem is emerging. Clusters, incubators, research centres and startups are helping to structure a sector that is still young but highly dynamic. While no dominant player has yet emerged, the strength of the ecosystem lies in the diversity and agility of its initiatives.

Startups Startups Close to the Field

Morocco’s agritech scene is expanding and demonstrating its vitality, driven by startups offering solutions designed to address the most pressing challenges facing agriculture.

Among them, Sand to Green stands out for its approach to regenerating degraded soils, combining agroecology and data. A direct response to the challenge of restoring land in arid environments.

AgriEdge is developing precision irrigation systems based on sensors and real-time recommendations, enabling optimised water management, a strategic priority in Morocco.

Another key player, SOWIT, is establishing itself as a regional leader in precision agriculture. Through satellite imagery and artificial intelligence, the startup transforms data into operational decisions, addressing a major gap: access to information.

In a different area, DeepLeaf illustrates the potential of artificial intelligence applied to agricultural diagnostics. By identifying diseases and deficiencies in a matter of seconds, it makes fast, accessible and high-impact advisory services more widely available.

Through agritech, Morocco is modernising its agriculture and outlining a new model.
