This summer, New York is more than ever the centre of the world. After hosting several major fixtures of the 2026 World Cup, including a highly anticipated clash between Morocco and Brazil, the metropolis establishes itself as the beating heart of the tournament by welcoming both a semi-final and its ultimate crowning moment: the grand final at MetLife Stadium. This historic event infuses New York with a spectacular energy that only amplifies the city’s naturally unique dynamism throughout the season.
Yet beyond football, New York remains a metropolis unlike any other, where world-class museums, iconic neighbourhoods, innovative creative addresses, spectacular rooftop views, urban beaches and one of the most impressive skylines on the planet converge.
Summer is perhaps the season when New York reveals its most generous side. Terraces spill onto the pavements, markets take over public squares, free concerts multiply, open air cinemas appear across the city, and New Yorkers reclaim their parks and waterfronts. The city seems to slow down ever so slightly without ever losing its intensity.
Long summer evenings invite visitors to explore neighbourhoods on foot, cross bridges at sunset and linger along the banks of the Hudson River and the East River.
Spanning 340 hectares, Central Park is far more than a park; it is a destination in its own right. In summer, visitors can hire a bicycle, row across the lake, attend a Shakespeare performance, enjoy free SummerStage concerts or simply savour a picnic on the Great Lawn. Just minutes away from the skyscrapers of Midtown, it offers one of New York’s most striking contrasts.
Few cities bring together so many cultures within a single urban landscape. Each neighbourhood possesses its own atmosphere. In Greenwich Village, Manhattan’s bohemian quarter, tree lined streets and brownstone houses reveal a more intimate side of New York. In SoHo, designer boutiques, galleries and elegant cafés attract those with an eye for style. Brooklyn captivates visitors with the lively streets of Williamsburg and the spectacular views from Brooklyn Heights.
For lunch, settle into the Franco New York institution Balthazar in SoHo, discover the energy of Katz’s Delicatessen on the Lower East Side, or savour the Italian flavours of Lilia in Brooklyn. Each neighbourhood has its own character, charm and favourite addresses.
Suspended above the streets of Manhattan’s West Side, the High Line has become one of the world’s most remarkable urban promenades. This former railway line transformed into a suspended garden offers unique perspectives over the city, the Hudson River and the contemporary architecture that has reshaped the district. It naturally leads towards Chelsea, with its galleries and emerging creative destinations.
Few cities can rival New York’s cultural offering. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Whitney Museum and the Frick Collection invite visitors to journey through centuries of artistic creation. In Chelsea, hundreds of galleries showcase the very best of contemporary art from around the world, while Brooklyn’s private foundations and alternative spaces help establish New York as one of the planet’s most influential artistic capitals.
New York remains one of the world’s great fashion capitals. Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue and SoHo’s luxury boutiques sit alongside concept stores and emerging designers. Design enthusiasts gravitate towards NoMad and Tribeca, while fashion lovers head to Williamsburg and the Lower East Side, where trends that often inspire the rest of the world first emerge.
Perhaps the best way to understand New York is to admire it from afar. From a ferry crossing the Hudson River or the East River, the city reveals its full grandeur. The new towers of Hudson Yards, the striking One World Trade Center and the slender silhouettes of Billionaires’ Row create a uniquely vertical landscape. The observatories at SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, Edge and One World Observatory offer breathtaking views.
Far from the clichés, New York is also a seaside destination. As soon as warmer days arrive, New Yorkers flock to Rockaway Beach in Queens, a favourite among surfers, or to Coney Island in Brooklyn, renowned for its lively boardwalk and nostalgic atmosphere. It is another way to experience the city, where sand, ocean and skyline converge.
As the sun sets, rooftops become the city’s finest balconies. From Westlight in Williamsburg to Midtown’s elevated terraces, they offer privileged views over Manhattan’s shimmering skyline. There is perhaps no better place to celebrate a final evening in New York. As the skyscrapers gradually illuminate the skyline, the city reveals another side of itself: that of an endlessly vibrant metropolis where every night promises a new story. From the jazz clubs of Greenwich Village to Broadway performances, from the hidden bars of the East Village to terraces overlooking Times Square, the possibilities feel infinite. When it is finally time to leave, one certainty remains: New York is not simply visited. It is lived, and it inevitably leaves you longing to return.
