SAINT PETERSBURG

SAINT PETERSBURG A CITY OF CANALS, CULTURE AND ENDLESS LIGHT

Founded in 1703 from the visionary dream of Peter the Great, Saint Petersburg unfolds its monumental perspectives, palaces and colonnades along a network of canals and rivers. Baroque and neoclassical styles echo one another with boldness, creating an almost theatrical setting beneath the singular light of the North. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its historic centre brings together more than 2,300 monuments: a true Venice of

the Baltic, both romantic and majestic. Anchored in its time, the city is also home to the Lakhta Centre, Europe’s tallest skyscraper, rising to 462 metres.

FROM QUIET DAYS TO WHITE NIGHTS

March and April are low season— perfect for exploring the city’s museums and historic buildings at an easy pace. With lighter crowds, you can wander through imperial palaces, cathedrals and galleries, enjoy quieter cafes. From late May, the atmosphere shifts: the legendary White Nights begin on May 25 and last until July 17 (55 days). The most luminous nights are usually seen from June 11 to July 2. Festivals, concerts and late-evening strolls take over the embankments, and travel agencies offer special itineraries. Be ready for higher demand, and book your hotel well in advance. Expect packed streets and full rooms on the Neva, sleep less, enjoy more, and plan ahead.
